Las investigaciones realizadas sobre el patrimonio arqueológico del Parque Nacional del
Teide (Tenerife) han permitido arrojar luz en la cuestión de cómo se desarrolló la
ocupación humana en ese territorio de alta montaña, tanto en época prehispánica como
después de la conquista de Tenerife. Basándonos en los datos aportados por dichas
investigaciones, este trabajo tiene como objetivo explicar las prácticas socioeconómicas
que mantendrían las comunidades que habitaron este espacio, hoy integrado en el Parque
Nacional del Teide. Por otra parte, planteamos que ese patrimonio arqueológico
constituye un corpus material que, además de explicar el modo de vida, permite trazar el
desarrollo histórico pre y post conquista. Si bien ha tendido a valorarse más su faceta
paisajística que su rico patrimonio arqueológico, esta consideración ha empezado a
cambiar en los últimos años, con la aparición de nuevas investigaciones que ponen de
relieve la importancia de este espacio para las poblaciones que allí dejaron su huella.Research into the archaeological heritage of the Teide National Park (Tenerife) has shed
light on the question of how human occupation developed in this high mountain territory,
both in pre-Hispanic times and after the conquest of Tenerife. Based on the data provided
by this research, the aim of this paper is to explain the socio-economic practices
maintained by the communities that inhabited this area, which is now part of the Teide
National Park. On the other hand, we propose that this archaeological heritage constitutes
a material corpus which, in addition to explaining the way of life, allows us to trace the
pre- and post-conquest historical development. Although its landscape aspect has tended
to be more highly valued than its rich archaeological heritage, this consideration has
begun to change in recent years, with the appearance of new research that highlights the
importance of this area for the people who left their mark there
