The aim of this paper is to analyze the intersemiotic dialogue between literature and cinema, focusing on the nature of the relationship that the movie Caramuru: the Invention of Brazil (2001) by Guel Arraes, establishes with the epic poem Caramuru (1781) by Santa Rita Durão. Some contributions from the Epic, Narratology and Semiotics studies, among others, will constitute important theoretical tool for the examination of the modus operandi through which the filmic text relates to the literary text.Analisar o diálogo intersemiótico entre literatura e cinema, enfocando a natureza da relação que o filme Caramuru: a invenção do Brasil (2001), de Guel Arraes, estabelece com o poema épico Caramuru (1781), de Santa Rita Durão, constitui a proposta do presente trabalho. Algumas contribuições advindas de estudos da épica, da narratologia e da semiótica, entre outros, constituirão relevante instrumental teórico para o exame do modus operandi pelo qual o texto fílmico se relaciona ao texto literário
