This article establishes a relationship between the way time was built in three transcendental spaces in The Divine Comedy – Hell, Purgatory and Heaven – and the philosophical speculation on the subject held by Plato, Aristotle and St. Augustine, thinkers whose works were read by Dante Alighieri and probably affected his own. The aim is to provoke some thoughts on questions that may seem confusing at first glance, as the coexistency of time and eternity in the transcendental space and the conservation, by the soul, of the characteristics of the body and the consequent subjection to the passage of time, especially where there is definite or transitory punishment. Interpretations to these questions will be presented and may be stimulating to the reading of the work.Este artigo estabelece uma relação entre o modo como o tempo foi construído nos três espaços transcendentais de A Divina Comédia – Inferno, Purgatório e Paraíso – e as especulações filosóficas sobre o tema realizadas por Platão, Aristóteles e Santo Agostinho, pensadores cujas obras foram lidas por Dante Alighieri e, provavelmente, influenciaram sua produção. O objetivo é provocar algumas reflexões iniciais e não muito aprofundadas sobre questões que podem parecer confusas ao leitor, à primeira vista, como por exemplo: a coexistência do tempo e eternidade no espaço transcendental, e a conservação, pela alma, das características do corpo e consequente sujeição à passagem do tempo, especialmente onde há punição, seja definitiva ou transitória. Para essas questões serão apresentadas interpretações que poderão ser estimulantes à leitura da obra
