Artroplastias y detección de metales en aeropuertos

Abstract

15 pacientes con variadas configuraciones de prótesis de cadera y rodilla han sido analizados en un arco detector de metales. Salvo los portadores de un sólo implante, en todos los demás casos el metal de las prótesis ha sido detectado en, al menos, el 75% de las ocasiones. Recomendamos que este hecho sea advertido a los pacientes con 2 o más implantes articulares en los miembros inferiores.A series of 15 patients with different configurations of hip and knee arthroplasty were analyzed with a metal arch detector similar to those used in airports. Metal detection was negative in patients having only one implant. In 75% of patients wearing at least two implants, metal detection was positive. We recommend that patients with two or more implants in the extremities should be informed of possible positive metal detection
