En este artículo se traza brevemente la historia de la introducción del término pretopónimo en los estudios sobre la historia del léxico catalán y la onomástica catalana. También, de su difusión a la terminología de otras lenguas vecinas. Se intenta analizar el uso que hace Corominas en el DECat con el fin de intentar una definición del término.Palabras clave: lexicografía; metalexicografía; historia de la terminología; DECat; GMLC.This essay draws the history of the Catalan word pretopònim (i. e. pre-toponym) and its introduction in the studies on the history of Catalan words and place-names. It also deals with the introduction of this word in the scientific terminology of neighbouring languages (Spanish, French).
