La figura de l´Amazona, singularitzada en les diverses reines que apareixen al llarg de la literatura des de l´època grega, es caracteritza per la pertanyença a un estat ginecocràtic que trenca les normes socials tant de l´Antiga Grècia com de les societats cristianes de l´Occident europeu. Normalment aquesta inversió és castigada pels autors, o bé amb la mort al combat, com a l´Antiguitat, o bé amb la derrota amorosa que les fa participar de bon grat de la societat patriarcal establerta.
