The influence of frequent topics and motifs on artistic expression of pre-school children

Abstract

Art in kindergarten can be seen every day. Because it greatly contributes to the development of the child through all phases of his or her life. We see art in kindergarten through planned art activities or topics that have been conducted during the week. In addition to these topics, we choose the motifs which if they are frequent enough they can inspire the pattern in kids paintings. In this paper, the aim of my research was to explore how the use of frequent themes and motifs influence the child's artistic expression, ie. whether it will stimulate the appearance of a template with regard to choosing a frequent theme and whether the choice of peer motives affects the motivation of the child. The research was conducted in two parts, the first part of the research refers to the opinions of educators on topics and motives in the kindergarten. In the first part of the research 31 educator from two kindergartens in Osijek and one kindergarten in Vinkovci participated. The second part of the research focused on analysing children's paintings with the favourite art technique on the most frequent theme. They painted the nature with a temper. The research was conducted in an older preschool group attending 18 children (9 boys and 9 girls) aged five to six. On the day of research, we introduced issues of nature that were in addition painted with a temper
