"Pirámides" de Güimar, solsticios, masonería y Egipto Antiguo

Abstract

En un libro reciente, se establece una interpretación de las morras de Güímar que justifica su pretendida orientación astronómica a los solsticios de verano e invierno mediante la pertenencia, confirmada, del propietario a la Masonería, que solemnizaba, mediante ellas, las dos fiestas más significativas del calendario masónico. El autor de este artículo rechaza esta hipótesis pues considera que: a) los majanos que nos ocupan se han construido siguiendo el borde de la colada volcánica que atraviesa la finca y, por tanto, cualquier orientación astronómica es accidental; b) el interés de la Masonería española por Egipto se desarrolló a partir de la década de 1870, cuando ya se habían erigido los majanos de Chacona; y c) la orientación de las pirámides egipcias era cardinal, no solsticial y no era considerada una característica demasiado significativa de estas construcciones durante el siglo XIX. Estas circunstancias, por tanto, no pudieron influir en la concepción de las morras de Chacona.In a recent book, a new interpretation of the majanos —cairns made during the preparation of fields for agriculture— of Güímar is proposed in order to justify its alleged astronomical orientation towards the sunrise at the winter solstice and the sunset at the summer solstice and, also, in respect of its date of construction on the XIX century, well established by modern archaeological excavations. The author of this article opposes this hypothesis on the grounds that: a) the majanos of Güímar were built on the edge of a volcanic lava flow stretching along the land and, consequently, any orientation is accidental; b) the interest of the Spanish Freemasonry on ancient Egypt was developed since the 1870’s, at a time when the Chacona structures were already built; and c) Egyptian pyramids were oriented towards the cardinal points, and so they were not solsticial in their orientation. This was known during the XIX century, but it was never considered a meaningful feature of those buildings. As a consequence, those circumstances could not have influenced the original design of the morras of Güímar
