In a practical DS-CDMA (direct sequence code division multiple access) system, the desired user suffers from significant multiple access interference (MAI) resulting from the presence of other users in a time varying multipath channel. This problem is particularity limiting on the uplink (UL), where time asynchronous users transmit over independent fading channels. This paper presents a novel receiver architecture that is reconfigurable to optimize performance adaptively in a multiuser scenario under time varying frequency selective fading channels plus additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). the UMTS TDD (time division duplex) CDMA UL format is considered. System performance in terms of uncoded BER (bit error rate) and overall capacity are presented.
