Female intervention in the process of imparting justice in "Calila e Dimna" and "Sendebar"

Abstract

Calila e Dimna y Sendebar son dos colecciones de relatos ejemplares de origen oriental que fueron traducidas al castellano en la segunda mitad del siglo XIII. Por su vinculación con el género de los specula principis, libros cuyo objetivo era la educación de los monarcas, ambos textos tienen como temas centrales la adquisición de sabiduría y la necesidad de actuar con mesura para impartir justicia. En ambos textos asistimos a una serie de debates y consejos que son herramientas de las que el monarca se sirve para determinar la veracidad de una situación y actuar de manera justa y equilibrada. En el presente trabajo se analizará la intervención femenina en esta serie de debates y el contexto de la representación literaria del juicio regio para comprender el peso de la voz de las mujeres en la decisión del rey.Calila e Dimna and Sendebar are two collections of exemplary tales of Eastern origin that were translated into Castillan during the second half of XIII Century. Their entailment with the gender of specula principis explains why both texts have as central themes the acquisition of wisdom and the need to act with restraint in order to administrate justice. In both texts we can appreciate a series of discussions and advices that are useful tools for the monarch in his goal to determine the veracity of a situation and to act fairly and balanced. In this work we will analyze the female intervention in this series of discussions and the context of the literary representation of the royal judgment in order to understand the importance of the female voice in the monarchs decisions.Fil: Miranda, Florencia Lucía.
