Legal punishment and libertarian thinking: Kropotkin’s visits to imprisonment facilities

Abstract

Este artículo reconstruye las observaciones críticas que Piotr KROPOTKIN realizó sobre el castigo y sus modernos y privilegiados lugares de ejecución, luego de visitar varias prisiones europeas a finales del siglo XIX. Con ello, el propósito fundamental es poner de presente la crítica que se desarrolló en torno a la función del castigo, las prisiones y al sistema penal en su conjunto, por parte de una tendencia de pensamiento como el anarquismo.This article reconstructs the critical remarks on punishment (and its modern and privileged places of application) made by Peter Kropotkin after visiting several European prisons in the late nineteenth century. Therefore, the main purpose of this work is bringing forward the critical statements developed by trends of thought like Anarchism around the role of punishment, prisons and the entire penal system
