Function, Use, Activity and Vocation Urbanization “The Merced” a case of study

Abstract

The research about Culture, Space and City implies the study in the ways of transformation of the city as much as and of its landscape, and the analysis of people’s relationships with the territory and how from them derive the meanings in the urban landscape. For this analysis of the urban dynamics, the research shows how the functions, the uses, the activities as continuous practices of people in the urban territory they produce changes and sustained permanencies, among others, in the mobility of the social and economic activities, in the urban image and in the structure of the city. As a result of this analysis it is possible to differentiate the function concepts, use, activity and vocation, the relationship between them and their influence in the development in the urban shape. The research is supported on a conceptual mark proposed by the group, compound number “analysis Outline for the city” that appeals to be elaborated in other disciplines as in geography, architecture and history. This outline becomes a tool for the understanding and the interpretation of the city, to observe the phenomena that influence in its development, also to understand the relationships of the community in the urban territory. With this purpose it takes like case of study the Urbanization La Merced, where starting from a historical focus, it is analyzed, it evaluates and it conceptualizes the goods that the uses and the activities have generated in the sector, understanding the possible changes or transformations that are manifested today in their urban structure.La investigación sobre Cultura, Espacio y Ciudad implica tanto el estudio de las formas de transformación de la ciudad y de su paisaje, como el análisis de las relaciones de la gente con el territorio y cómo de ellas se desprenden los significados en el paisaje urbano. Para este análisis de la dinámica urbana, la investigación muestra cómo las funciones, los usos, las actividades como prácticas continuas de la gente en el territorio urbano producen cambios y permanencias sustentados, entre otros, en la movilidad de las actividades sociales y económicas, en la imagen urbana y en la estructura de la ciudad. Como resultado de este análisis se logra además de diferenciar los conceptos de función, uso, actividad y vocación, la relación entre ellos y su influencia en el desarrollo de la forma urbana. La investigación se soporta sobre un marco conceptual propuesto por el grupo, denominado “Esquema de análisis para la ciudad” que recurre a otras disciplinas como la geografía, la arquitectura y la historia para ser elaborado. Dicho esquema se convierte en una herramienta para la comprensión y la interpretación de la ciudad, para observar los fenómenos que influyen en su desarrollo, asimismo para entender las relaciones de la comunidad en el territorio urbano. Con este propósito se toma como caso de estudio la Urbanización La Merced, donde a partir de un enfoque histórico, se analiza, evalúa y conceptualiza los efectos que los usos y las actividades han generado en el sector, comprendiendo los posibles cambios o transformaciones que se manifiestan hoy en su estructura urbana
