Encomium and didactics on arts through poetry during the Spanish Golden Age: A new reading of Juan de Arfe's De Varia Conmensuración para la escultura y la arquitectura

Abstract

En el siguiente trabajo presentamos un estudio acerca del uso dado al verso en la obra de Juan de Arfe y Villafañe De Varia Conmensuración para la escultura y arquitectura, publicado en 1585. Pretendemos ver la opinión dada por los críticos a esta particularidad del tratado. A través de esta relectura de los versos, además, queremos profundizar en los motivos por los cuáles Arfe introdujo estos elementos en la configuración de su tratado.The main goal of this paper is offering a study about the scope of the verse in Juan de Arfe y Villafañe’s De Varia Conmensuracion para la escultura y arquitectura, published in 1585. Our research will be based in contrasting the diverse opinions given by the critics to this particular aspect of the book. Through a rereading of the verses, we also want to point out the main reasons why Arfe introduced these elements in the conformation of the treatise
