Abstract

Alain Corbin présente, en quelques lignes, l'interêt des communications et du thème commun qui les lie : l'exil. Il rappelle que durant le XIXe siècle, par la multiplicité des changements de régime, par le caractère " civilisé " de la répression qui ne pratique qu'exceptionnellement la mise à mort des opposants, les exilés politiques ont été légion. Ce qui n'était qu'un topos devient une réalité complexe. L'exil a des espaces et des territoires proches ou lointains. Il peut être aussi intérieur ou imaginaire. Il remodèle les usages du temps. Comment les exilés vivent-ils ce " dépaysement " ? Quels en sont les bénéfices et les souffrances ? Quelles sont les procédures de retour ? C'est toutes ces questions et bien d'autres qui font la richesse d'un tel sujet.In a few words, Alain Corbin provides an overview of the various papers and explains their common theme: exile. He reminds us that in the 19th century, because of the numerous changes in political regimes and because of the "civilised" character of repression which only very rarely resorted to executing political opponents, there were a great many political exiles. What was had been a rare occurrence became a complex reality. The space and the territory of exile could be close or remote. Exile could also be interior or imaginary; and it changed the way people perceived time. How did the exiles experience this "change of scenery"? What were the inherent advantages and sufferings of exile? What were the various ways of returning? All these questions, and many others, make this topic an extremely rich one
