Abstract

After recalling the difference between the two main genres of Sardinian polyphony, that is, a tenore, which is of a profane nature, and concordu, which is of a sacred nature, the author focusses on the less well-known forms of religious polyphony. Applying musicological criteria, he describes their common features and highlights different styles. Finally, he considers the relationships between the musical system and religious symbolism
