All functional images were slice-time andmotion corrected, unwarped, coregistered to participants’ individualstructural volume, and spatially normalised. Participants indicated their awareness of 45 bodilysensations (e.g. stomach and gut pains) using a five point scaleranging from ‘never’ coded as 1 to ‘always’ coded as 5. The BPQscore was the mean of all the answers. The completion of theAlcohol Use Questionnaire allowed the computation of the BingeDrinking Score (BDS). Then, subjects performed an emotionalempathy task during fMRI scanning (Figure 1).fMRITaskStudies focusing on substance use disorders reportaberrant activation of the anterior insula cortex (AIC),during emotional processing[2]. Among alcoholdependent subjects, reduced interoceptive ability hasalso been observed [3].
