The effect of ensiled corn grain supplementation to grass haylage on the ration dry matter intake and digestibility

Abstract

Cilj rada bio je utvrditi ad libitum konzumaciju suhe tvari (ST) obroka i in vivo probavljivost ST obroka kastriranih ovnova hranjenih travnom sjenažom uz dodatak različitih količina siliranog vlažnog zrna kukuruza. Istraživana su tri hranidbena tretmana, (i) travna sjenaža bez dodatka kukuruza, (ii) travna sjenaža uz dodatak 5 g siliranog zrna kukuruza/kg tjelesne mase (TM) kastriranih ovnova i (iii) travna sjenaža uz dodatak 10 g/kg TM kastriranih ovnova. Dodatak 10 g fermentiranog zrna kukuruza/kg TM kastriranih ovnova obroku baziranom na sjenaži je smanjio ad libitum konzumaciju ST sjenaže (P<0,05) te smanjio in vivo probavljivost obroka (P<0,05).The objective of the study was to determine ad libitum dry matter (DM) intake and in vivo DM digestibility in wether sheep fed grass haylage supplemented with two levels of high moisture corn. The research consisted of three feeding treatments, (i) grass haylage only, (ii) grass haylage supplemented with 5 g of ensiled corn grain/kg body weight (BW) of wether sheep and (iii) grass haylage supplemented with 10 g of ensiled corn grain/kg BW of wether sheep. Supplementation of 5 g of ensiled corn/kg of BW of wether sheep to grass haylage increased grass haylage DM intake compared to the feeding treatment consist of grass haylage only (P<0,05). The addition of ensiled corn (5 g and 10 g/kg BW of wether sheep) increased the ration DM intake (P<0,5). Addition of 10 g of ensiled corn/kg BW of wether sheep reduced grass haylage ad libitum DM intake (P<0,05) and decreased ration in vivo digestibility (P<0,05)
