Jargonisms in children's speak

Abstract

The issue of jargon is one area that is not mentioned in the elementary program. Although jargon is the part of the lexix of youth, and therefore also the vocabulary of students, there is no clear approach to this issue. While some advocate the introduction of jargon in the curriculum and textbooks of the Croatian language, others strongly resist it. The aim of this study is to investigate which close synonyms students from grades 1 to 4 in urban and rural schools are aware of from the offered words, how many of them know the jargon terms and if the students from city schools know more jargon's than students from rural schools. A survey was given to 57 students of rural schools and 57 students of city schools from Vukovar -Srijem County and Brod - Posavina County
