Analysis of the Influence of the Traffic Signal Countdown Timer at Traffic Lights on Vehicles in the Function of Road Traffic Safety

Abstract

Na raskrižjima su detektirane konfliktne točke koje mogu ugroziti protočnost i sigurnost prometa. Postavljanjem semafora postiže se efikasnost i povećava se propusna moć prometnih tokova na raskrižju. U novije vrijeme postavljaju se uz semaforska svjetla i brojači preostalog vremena pojedine faze koji sudionicima u prometu omogućavaju uvid u preostalo vrijeme čekanja za promjenu pojedine faze. Na određenim semaforskim uređajima postavljeni su brojači vremena intervala crvenog i zelenog svjetla kako bi se povećala sigurnost prometa u raskrižju kada vozači naglo zaustavljaju vozilo u trenutcima isteka zelene faze prikazane brojačima vremena ili ubrzavanja vozila kada brojač vremena pokaže da se sprema promjena signalnog pojma. Prema obavljenim znanstvenim istraživanjima u pojedinim slučajevima nije dokazan niti pozitivan niti negativan utjecaj na sigurnost motornog i pješačkog prometa, dok u određenim situacijama brojači vremena pokazali su određene pozitivne učinke što djelomično opravdava nastavak znanstvenog istraživanja učinkovitosti takvog sustava.On crossroads, conflict point are detected that can compromise flow and traffic security. By setting a traffic light, the efficiency gains and increases the pervasive power of traffic flows at the intersection. More recently, traffic lights are equipped with time counters of a single phase, which allow traffic participants to inspect the remaining standby time for the change of phase. On certain traffic lights, timers of red and green light intervals are set to increase traffic safety at the intersection when drivers suddenly stop the vehicle at the time of the green phase outlined by timer or accelerate the vehicle when the timer shows that the signal concept changes. Certain studies have shown no positive or negative impact on the safety of motor and pedestrian traffic, while in certain situations time counters have shown some positive effects, which partly justifies the continuation of scientific research on the efficiency of such a system
