Lords Berka of Dubá and Lipá on the verge of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Time

Abstract

The aim of this work is to reconstruct the history of the lords Berka of Dubá and Lipá from the branch of Lipá in the fifteenth century, especially with emphasis on political careers of its individual members. After more than a half century of political passivity, we can see its representatives once more alongside the king and in hold of significant offices on the court of Ladislaus of Habsburg and George of Poděbrady. What was the cause of renewal of their power? Which part of this process depended on the activity of the lords Berka and how important for the rise of their power was their estate? Were they able to maintain the gained status also in the next generation during the rule of Vladislaus II. of Hungary? These are the main issues of this bachelor thesis. Key Words: Bohemian Nobility, Berka of Dubá, the Brach of Lipá, Late Middle Ages, Early Modern Time, Northern Bohemia, Court Caree
