Comparison of Posture and Substrate Use in Captive \u3cem\u3eCallithrix jacchus\u3c/em\u3e and \u3cem\u3eSaguinus fuscicollis\u3c/em\u3e

Abstract

This research attempts to determine if there are any differences in the amount of time captive Callithrix jacchus, Saguinus fuscicollis use various substrates. Following a literature review, the primary hypothesis posited is there may be a possible correlation between time spent on substrate and feeding patterns. Recorded observations at the Marmoset Research Center-University of Tennessee Medical Center will be analyzed with a nonparametric statistical test in order to test this hypothesis. While this study shows no significant differences between the species in the time spent on substrates, a secondary observation reflects differences in postures between Callithrix jacchus and Saguinus fuscicollis. Factors which may have an effect upon the results of this study will be discussed
