W obliczu XXI wieku, w dobie pogoni za wartościami materialnymi, walką o dobrobyt, postępem nauki, przemianami politycznymi i społecznymi w zawodzie pielęgniarki pojawiło się nowe wyzwanie: dylemat etyczny.
