Abstract
The purpose of this article is to examine, from the debate that arose in the second half of the nineteenth century about the constitution of nerve tissue between neuronistas and reticularistas, the hybrid proposal for the establishment of the retina by Ferruccio Tartuferi (1852-1925) in 1887. We also intend to start a discussion about some solutions in the second half of the nineteenth century to the explanation of visual perception by purely anatomical and physiological pathways from the concept of visual cellO objetivo do presente artigo é examinar, a partir do debate que se estabeleceu na segunda metade do século XIX acerca da constituição do tecido nervoso entre neuronistas e reticularistas, a proposta híbrida para a constituição da retina apresentada por Ferruccio Tartuferi (1852-1925) em 1887. Pretendemos também iniciar uma discussão sobre algumas soluções apresentadas na segunda metade do século XIX para a explicação da percepção visual por vias puramente anatomo-fisiológicas a partir do conceito de célula visual
