In this article the author describes her experience with Junior Student Nurses — 5th semesters — discipline of Medical-Surgical Nursing, at the School of Nursing and Obstetrics, Federal University of Minas Gerais. The experiment was to introduce the students in the care of private patients in a Surgical Unit. The study relates the student's opinions about the importance of the learning experience with these different segment of the clientele.Neste trabalho a autora relata a sua experiência junto aos alunos de 5º período, da disciplina Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica I, do curso de Enfermagem e Obstetricia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Nesta experiência procurou inserir o aluno na assistência ao paciente particular, em uma clinica médico-cirúrgica. O estudo constou de opiniões levantadas junto aos discentes sobre a importância da sua aprendizagem junto a esta clientela
