It is difficult to trace the specific phases of urban growth and the outlines of particular neighborhoods in studies of Turkish cities conducted prior to the 20th century. And we can not say all such studies are absolute accurate. The historical geographer’s and the city historiographer’s task is to make a thematic argument as accurate as possible, using historical documents, records of structures, and observations of land and land-use. This study examines trends from the 14th century to the present through the long period of development of Manisa’s several neighborhoods, through their various changes and the alterations of neighborhood names.Şehirlerin XX. yüzyıl öncesindeki gelişim evrelerini, mahallelerini ve bu mahallelerinin sınırlarını ortaya koymak oldukça zordur. Bunun yanında ortaya konulan çalışmaların mutlak doğru olduğunu söylemekte doğru değildir. Burada tarihi coğrafyacıların ve kent tarihçilerinin yapmış olduğu iş, tarihi vesika ve yapılardan ve arazi gözlemlerinden faydalanarak tematik, gerçeğe en yakın durumu ortaya koymaktır. Bu çalışmada da XIV. yüzyıldan günümüze kadar geçen süre zarfındaki mahallelerin gelişimi, değişimi ve isim değişiklikleri ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır
