Abstract
The following paper is intended to show how metrical structure of German verb-final sentences can be derived from syntactic and information-structural cues by taking the syntactic relationship and the information status of adjacent syntactic constituents into consideration. It will be argued that the syntactic structure has to be supplemented by focus features rather than by givenness features and that focus features need to be restricted to foreground domains to derive the correct stress pattern
