Associated Students of the University of Montana 1 Resolution Regarding The University Diversity Plan 2 September 29, 2010 3 Senate Bill Number: SB4-10/11 4 Authored by: Ashleen Williams, ASUM President, Katie Mariani,  5 ASUM Senator and Patrick Rhea, ASUM Senator 6  7  8  9  10 Whereas, The University of Montana has committed itself to supporting a diverse 11 community; 12  13 Whereas, The University of Montana has maintained a strategic plan focused on 14 cultural and ethnic diversity for nearly twenty years; 15  16 Whereas, Lucy T. France, Director of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, 17 has led a task force charged by President George M. Dennison with revising the 18 original Diversity Plan; 19  20 Whereas, this task force developed the 2010 Diversity Plan and has requested the 21 support of the Faculty, Staff, and Student Senates; 22  23 Whereas, the updated plan “contains a broader definition of diversity and outlines 24 specific strategies to achieve specific diversity goals throughout the University”; 25  26 Whereas, the goals outlined in the revised Diversity Plan work to build the 27 University community’s understanding, respect, and support of diversity; 28  29 Whereas, the Diversity Plan calls for the University to provide guidance for 30 students to foster a multicultural society; 31  32 Whereas, having a current and up-to-date Diversity Plan is crucial for creating a 33 community that welcomes and supports cultural and ethnic diversity; 34  35 Therefore, Let It Be Resolved that the Associated Students of The University of 36 Montana (ASUM) support the implementation of the 2010 revision of the 37 University of Montana’s Diversity Plan; 38  39 Let It Be Further Resolved, that the ASUM President will send a copy of this 40 resolution to all interested parties.  41  42  43  44  45      Passed by Committee: _________________________, 2010      Passed by Senate: _____________________________, 2010         __________________________    __________________________    Travis Suzuki,        Amanda Stovall,  46 Relations and Affairs Chair   Chair of the Senate  47
