These quizzes will be short (10 to 15 minutes at the beginning of a class period) and will cover homework tha t was assigned for the previous class periods. The quizzes will be announced in class and on the class webpage at least two class periods in advance. There will be no make-ups for these quizzes; a missed quiz counts as a zero. Your two lowest quiz scores will be dropped.1(ii) There will be three tests, tentatively scheduled as follows (check the class webpage for possible changes):• Test 1 on Wednesday, September 27;• Test 2 on Wednesday, October 25;• Test 3 on Wednesday, November 29.(iii) There will be a cumulative FINAL EXAM on Thursday, December 22, 8:00 am -  10:00 am.(iv) Your course grade will be based on 3 tests (100 points each), the final exam (150 points) and the quizzes (100 points). Letter grades will correspond to the following point intervals:495 - 550 OVI C o A4 4 0 - 494 (> 80 % and <90% ); B385 - 439 (> 70 % and < 80 %): C3 3 0 - 384 '>  60 % and < 70 %): Dbelow 330 (< 60 %): FAll changes to and from the P /X  grading option must be made by the deadline (October 16).A grade of C or better is required for a P; a D grade translates to an X.A d d /D ro p  Policy: The last day to drqp by DIAL/CYBER BEAR is Monday, September 25. The last day to change sections and to change grading options is Monday, October 16. This is also the last day to drop. Until October 16, drop slips will be signed with no questions asked. The secretaries in the Math Office (room MA 105) can sign these. Changes after this deadline must be done by Petition to D rop/Add A fter Deadline and approved by the course coordinator Mark Heaphy, your advisor, and the appropriate Dean. The last day for this type of drop petitions is December 15. Approval requires genuine extenuating circumstances, such as:1. Missing a substantial number of class days due to illness, accident or family emergency.2. A change in work schedule tha t makes it impossible to attend class or devote adequate time to the course;3. Registration in the course by error and never attending class.Reasons tha t are not satisfactory include:1. Forgetting to turn in a drop slip.2. Protecting your grade point average.In co m p le te  (I) G rades: To be eligible for an “I” , the following conditions must be met:1. The student must have been in attendance and PASSING the course up to 3 weeks before the . semester ends; and2. The student is unable to complete the course due to extenuating circumstances, which usually means serious illness or death in the family.Incomplete (I’s) are not given under any other circumstances. I ’s are always given at the discretion of your instructor and the course coordinator; and this is very rare. See the 2000/2001 catalog for further information.C h ea tin g : Cheating is a very serious offense and cheaters will be punished according to guidelines in the Student Conduct Code. The penalties will include receiving a failing grade for the exam or the course, and/or being placed on disciplinary probation.E x am  M ake-ups: Exam make-ups will be given under special and extenuating circumstances such as a death in the family or illness, provided that a note from the Health Service or Doctor is furnished by the student. The make-ups must be taken no later than one week after the exam. Early finals will not be given. I t is your responsibility to notify your instructor as soon as you know you will miss any exam or quiz.2
