The Associated Students of The University of Montana 1  Resolution Regarding the Student Conduct Code 2 October 24, 2012 3 SB26-12/13 4 Authored by: Bryn Hagfors, ASUM Vice President 5 Sponsors: Micah Nielsen, ASUM Business Manager; James Bird, ASUM Senator; Mike 6 Hopkins, ASUM Senator; Eamon Ormseth, ASUM Senator; Gwendolyn Coon, ASUM 7 Senator; Ryan Hazen, ASUM Senator 8  9 Whereas, The University of Montana (UM) Student Conduct Code outlines the rights and 10 responsibilities of all students at The University of Montana and governs all student conduct; 11  12 Whereas, students are responsible for knowing, understanding, and abiding by the Student 13 Conduct Code; 14  15 Whereas, being a student at UM presupposes a commitment to the principles and policies 16 embodied in the student conduct code; 17  18 Whereas, The University of Montana Administration is in the process of updating and rewriting 19 sections of The University of Montana Student Conduct Code; 20  21 Whereas, students at The University of Montana are held accountable to changes in the code of 22 conduct after those changes are published; 23  24 Whereas, it is expensive both financially and in terms of time and effort to update the student 25 body about changes to the Student Conduct Code; 26  27 Whereas, changes to the Student Conduct Code have the potential to significantly impact 28 students and the level of conduct to which they are held; 29  30 Whereas, frequent changes to the Student Conduct Code result in confusion by the student body 31 as to the level of conduct to which they are held; 32  33 Therefore, Let It Be Resolved, that The Associated Students of The University of Montana 34 (ASUM) encourage The University of Montana Administration to minimize the number of times 35 that the student conduct code is updated; 36  37 Therefore, Let It Be Further Resolved, that ASUM encourages the university administration to 38 present all substantive changes publicly to the ASUM Senate before they are published; 39  40 Therefore, Let It Be Further Resolved, that ASUM encourages The University of Montana 41 Administration to submit all changes to the Student Conduct Code to the Montana Kaimin; 42  43 Therefore, Let It Be Further Resolved, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to The 44 University of Montana Dean of Students, Vice President for Student Affairs, President, and the 45 Montana Kaimin. 46 Passed by Committee: _________________________, 2012 47  48 Passed by Senate: _____________________________, 2012 49  50  51  52  53 ____________________________  __________________________    54 Damara Simpson,    Bryn Hagfors, 55 Committee Chair    Chair of the Senate 56
