May, Senator John Wilke, Senator  3  4 Whereas, ASUM can actively lobby legislators to help improve the conditions of students at The University of 5 Montana; 6  7 Whereas, the University’s own policy does not allow discrimination based on sexual orientation; 8  9 Whereas, domestic partnerships are by their very nature beneficial to students eligible for such domestic 10 partnerships, 11  12 Whereas, domestic partnerships are a step for equality on a state level that will attract students across the nation 13 to our campus that may not otherwise choose Montana,  14  15 Therefore, Let It Be Resolved that the Senate instructs the ASUM Lobbyist to lobby for the passage of the bills 16 entitled Define domestic partners and establish benefits (LC1662) or any bill serving the same purpose of the 17 previously mentioned.  18  19 Let It Be Further Resolved that the ASUM Lobbyist notifies interested student groups on committee, house and 20 senate actions in regards to the aforementioned bill and any other information the Lobbyist feels pertinent. 21  22  23  Passed by Committee: _________________________, 2009  Passed by Senate: _____________________________, 2009    ____________________________  __________________________    Committee Chair     Chair of the Senate Andrew Dusek      Siri Smillie
