For more information, please contact scholarworks@mso.umt.edu.  1 The Associated Students of The University of Montana 2 Resolution Regarding Athletic Fee Increase 3 March 24, 2010 Senate Bill Number SB27-09/10 Authored by: Mary Kettering, Jake Armstrong, ASUM Business Manager Trent Hanson, ASUM Senator Sponsored by: Katie Mariani, ASUM Senator 4  5  6  7 Whereas, the student athletes at the University of Montana have been spending multiple hours 8 each day training in facilities which are long past due for renovations. 9  10 Whereas, the aesthetics of the facilities are not the concern of student athletes, but the welfare of 11 student athletes is currently at risk in the present state of the facilities. 12  13 Whereas, the improved working facilities will help with the continued success of our athletic 14 programs, which in turn will help the University of Montana as a whole. 15  16 Whereas, the current athletic fee at the University of Montana is $23.00 per semester for all 17 students enrolled in 1-6 credits and $46.00 per semester for all students enrolled in seven or more 18 credits. 19  20 Whereas, the students at Montana State University pay $72.10 per semester for their Athletic 21 Fee. 22  23 Therefore, Let It Be Resolved that ASUM supports a fee increase of $26.10 for every student 24 enrolled in seven or more credits. For students enrolled in one to six credits, the fee will be half 25 the total fee, $36.05 per semester, as that is the fee structure at this time. 26  27 Let It Be Further Resolved that this fee will be permanent; with no sunset date.  The student 28 athletes will benefit immensely from this fee increase as will the art students, who will ultimately 29 benefit from the construction of a new art annex. 30  31 Let It Be Further Resolved that the increased fee will be used only for facilities costs. 32  33 Let It Be Further Resolved that 50% of the increased portion of the fee go towards the costs of 34 building and maintaining the Art Annex, until its completion. 35  36 Let It Be Further Resolved that the Athletic Department annually presents an itemized budget 37 breakdown of this fee to ASUM to ensure that the fee does in fact go to facilities cost. 38      Passed by Committee: _________________________, 2010  Passed by Senate: _____________________________, 2010    ____________________________  __________________________    Andrew Dusek       Emily May Relations and Affairs Chair    Chair of the Senate
