The Associated Students of the University of Montana 1 Resolution Regarding Student Infrastructure Act 2 March 19, 2014 3 SB70-13/14 4 Authored by:  James Bird, ASUM Senator 5  6 Whereas, the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act eliminates a distinction in 7 existing tax law would allow tax-exempt charitable and educational organizations to 8 make grants to non-university owned, not-for-profit student housing entities that provide 9 collegiate student housing;  10  11 Whereas, the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act would make college more 12 affordable, at no cost to taxpayers, by offering housing alternatives that are less 13 expensive than university housing;  14  15 Whereas, the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act results in safer student housing 16 by encouraging charitable contributions to be used for the installation of life saving 17 equipment such as fire sprinklers, smoke detectors, and alarm systems;  18  19 Whereas, there are 236 students that currently live in non-university owned, not-for-20 profit, student housing at the University of Montana; 21  22 Therefore, Let It Be Resolved, that the Associated Students of the University of Montana 23 supports the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act; 24  25 Therefore, Let It Be Further Resolved, that the Associated Students of the University of 26 Montana asks the Montana Congressional Delegation of the United States Congress to 27 sponsor the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act. 28  29 Passed by Committee: March 17, 2014 30  31 Passed by ASUM Senate: March 19, 2014 32 Final Vote: Unanimous Consent 33  34  35 ________________________  ______________________________ 36 Sean McQuillan,    Mariah Williams, 37 Relations and Affairs Chair   Chair of the Senate 38
