The Associated Students of the University of Montana 1 Resolution Regarding the ASUM Transportation Fee 2 March 9, 2011 3 Senate Bill SB25-10/11 4 Authored By: Kayla Hoggatt, ASUM Senator, Dani Mackey, ASUM Senator,  5 Patrick Rhea, ASUM Senator and Ben Weis, Student at Large 6  7 Whereas on February 9, 2011, ASUM unanimously supported referendum language 8 regarding a $4.00 increase to the ASUM Transportation Fee for the 2011 elections; 9  10 Therefore, Let It Be Resolved that the Associated Students of The University of Montana 11 submit the attached language to a student referendum in April 2011. 12  13 Referendum Language: ASUM Transportation Fee 14  15 The Transportation Fee supports the ASUM Office of Transportation. The ASUM 16 Office of Transportation offers the Park n Ride services, COT Shuttle, the late 17 night UDASH bus, 2 two-day bike check out, semester bike check out, individual 18 trip planning, advocacy for community infrastructure improvement, incentive 19 programs, and more. These services are designed to relieve traffic and parking 20 congestion and reduce community and campus emissions along with increasing 21 general education regarding the transportation options available to students. 22  23 A fee increase is needed to continue service due to rising costs of fuel and staff 24 salary. Also, s Surveys distributed to the student body show strong demand for 25 additional services including winter session bus service, additional late bus 26 service, and more Park n Ride service during the day. 27  28 A $4 per semester increase to the Transportation Fee would increase the current 29 Park n Ride services, add additional late night service, and add winter session 30 service as requested by 81.7% of those surveyed.
