(ISBN: 978-0-19-531440-3) Course Description as per 2012/2013 UM Catalog U 160L Global Visual Culture 3 cr. Offered autumn and spring. An introduction to the visual arts exploring various approaches to understanding art, art history and terminology, techniques and media, motivating factors behind the creative act. Course Objectives and Format Global Visual Culture is an online course that integrates images, videos, online lectures and projects to expose students to a wide variety of art and art practices, both historical and contemporary. The course seeks to broaden your awareness and appreciation of visual experiences in a global setting. We will consider how we define art/visual culture and how it intersects with larger social and political trends. All course content (syllabus, participation assignments, lectures, reading assignments, quizzes, discussions, grades, etc.) will be made available to you via UM Online: Moodle. Academic Misconduct & Student Conduct Code All students must practice academic honesty.  Academic misconduct is subject to an academic penalty by the course instructor and/or disciplinary sanction by the University.  All students need to be familiar with the Student Conduct Code.
