A random field representation based on stochastic harmonic functions

Abstract

Random field models are widely adopted in engineering practice, for instance, to describe the mechanical properties of an engineering site or a civil structure. The most widely employed approach to represent a random field is the spectral representation. In the present paper, a new stochastic harmonic function representation by partitioning the wave number domain is proposed. The properties of the new representation are studied. A numerical example is studied to illustrate the proposed method.Non UBCUnreviewedThis collection contains the proceedings of ICASP12, the 12th International Conference on Applications of Statistics and Probability in Civil Engineering held in Vancouver, Canada on July 12-15, 2015. Abstracts were peer-reviewed and authors of accepted abstracts were invited to submit full papers. Also full papers were peer reviewed.
