Investigating on the street prostitution... About a few stakes which bind the researcher to take a stand

Abstract

Cette contribution propose un retour réflexif sur les débuts d’un terrain de recherche qui, à différents égards, peut être qualifié de sensible. Partant d’une définition de l’objet « prostitution » et du contexte dans lequel il s’inscrit, l’objectif est de décrire et discuter les implications et engagements du chercheur en lien avec différentes facettes de la production de connaissances, de l’accès au terrain à la restitution concernant un thème « d’actualité » qui fait l’objet d’un débat polarisé. À partir d’un ensemble de difficultés rencontrées, nous montrerons comment le chercheur est, aux différentes étapes de la recherche, sommé de prendre position ou, à tout le moins, de dire de quel côté il se situe.This contribution proposes a reflexive review on the beginnings of a research field which can be described as sensitive on different aspects. Starting from a definition of the object “prostitution” and the context in which it is inscribed, the purpose is to describe and discuss the involvement and commitment of the researcher in connection with the different aspects of the production of knowledge, from the access to the field to the restitution concerning a topical theme that is debated in a polarized way. From a set of difficulties he can come across, we will show how the researcher, at the different steps of the research, has to take a stand, or at least to say on which side he is
