3EditorialAs students at the University of Leicester we’ve always felt that there should be more communication between different research groups, departments and sections of the student body. As a postgraduate student it’s very easy to develop tunnel vision with regards to your own research without thinking about its wider context or alternative applications. As an undergraduate the range of research carried out within your own department (let alone in the university as a whole) is not always clear. As a distance learning or part-time student it can be a struggle to feel connected to the University of Leicester community. We hope that FRONTIER will help all students to become more aware of, and more involved in, the world class research carried out at the University of Leicester. When we started this project, FRONTIER was just an idea. It has taken a lot of hard work by a lot of people to make it a reality. We couldn’t have reached this point without the help of our editorial team, their deputy editors and the students who were willing to write articles for a magazine which, at the time, didn’t exist. Starting up a new magazine, and sourcing the funding required to make it freely accessible to all of you reading this, could have been an insurmountable challenge. We were lucky to be supported by dedicated staff within the University of Leicester who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us reach this stage. We’d like to express our gratitude to everyone who has been involved so far. Now it’s your turn.FRONTIER is your magazine and we want you all to have a say in what it becomes. If you would like to write an article about your research, or have an idea for a feature you’d like to be involved with, please email your college representative. Even if you’re not a writer yourself, we’d still love to hear what you think. There’s a lot to be proud of at the University of Leicester.
