Ecosystem services of city parks- example city of Zagreb

Abstract

U radu su istražene struktura i općekorisne funkcije gradskih parkova u Gradu Zagrebu. Pomoću ankete provedene na internetu prikazano je stambeno okruženje i dostupnost stanovništva gradskim parkovima, te u kojoj mjeri su gradski parkovi važni građanima. Gradski parkovi trebaju predstavljati višefunkcionalni prostor u kojem su sve potrebe lokalnog stanovništa ispunjene, uključujući zaštitu flore i faune i borbu protiv klimatskih promjena. Proučavanjem tipova vegetacije, rekreacijskih i drugih sadržaja, uz osvrt na upravljanje i održavanje današnjih parkova, ali i načina stvaranja novih zelenih oaza u gradu otkrivaju se glavne mane i prednosti zagrebačkih parkova. Socijalna, estetska, ekonomska i ekološka uloga gradskih parkova analizirana je na primjerima iz Europe, Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, ali i iz duge povijesti Grada Zagreba. Ovaj rad prikazuje dobre i loše strane upravljanja, te može poslužiti kao pomoć u projektiranju budućih gradskih zelenih prostora.This paper explores the structure and general function of parks in the City of Zagreb. The residential environment, the availability of population to city parks and to what extent city parks are important to citizens are shown with the help of online survey. City parks should be a multifunctional space where all local residents needs will be satisfied, including the protection of flora and fauna and the struggle against climate change. Exploring the types of vegetation, recreation and other facilities, with a review of the management and maintenance of today's parks, as well as the way of creating new green oases in the city, the flaws and the advantages of Zagreb parks are revealed. The social, aesthetic, economic and ecological role of city parks is analysed with examples from Europe, the United States, but also from the long history of the City of Zagreb. This paper shows good and bad sides of management and can serve as an aid in designing future green spaces
