Abstract
Se estudia la edición y contenido polémico
del pliego de cordel con la “Oración devotísima
de San Cipriano” tomada del Liber exorcismorum
cum adversus tempestates et daemones,
impreso en Pamplona en 1631, cuyo autor es
Cristóbal Lasterra, clérigo navarro y comisario
del Santo Oficio.
La publicación en el formato de pliego suelto
persigue la difusión masiva, a precio asequible
para el pueblo fiel, de una plegaria vinculada a
un santo, como San Cipriano, relacionado con la
magia y los conjuros.
El contenido de la oración, plagado de afirmaciones
carentes de fundamento e invocaciones
de dudosa ortodoxia, provocó la intervención de
la Inquisición que, tras analizar sus incongruencias,
ordenó la retirada de la impresión en 1634.
Las reiteradas ocasiones en que las oraciones
dirigidas a San Cipriano fueron prohibidas por las
autoridades eclesiásticas ponen de manifiesto el
arraigo de la piedad popular hacia este santo,
vinculado con la heterodoxia, y el escaso efecto
que tuvieron esas medidas represoras.The publication and controversial content
of the sheet book are studied with the “Devoted
prayer of Saint Cipriano” taken from the
Liber exorcismorum cum adversus tempestates
et daemones, printed in Pamplona in 1631, the
author of which is Cristóbal Lasterra, Navarre cleric
and commissioner of the Inquisition.
The publication in the format of a chapbook promoted
the widespread distribution, at an affordable
price for the loyal public, of a prayer linked to
a saint, such as Saint Cipriano, related to magic
and spells.
The content of the prayer, riddled with affirmations
lacking in foundation and invocations of dubious
orthodoxy, provoked the intervention of the
Inquisition which, having analysed its incongruencies,
ordered the withdrawal of the copy in 1634.
The repeated occasions on which prayers to
Saint Cipriano were forbidden by the ecclesiastic
authorities displays how popular devotion to this
Saint took root, linked to heterodoxy and the poor
effect these repressive measures had
