El paisaje en la perspectiva de la comunidad, identificando el patrimonio en Cuenca, Ecuador

Abstract

Based on the Recommendation on Historic Urban Landscapes (HUL) issued by UNESCO in 2011 that recognises the crucial role of communities for heritage management on its context, this paper aims to depict how, through the integration of community, it is possible to identify assets that have not necessarily been considered so far in heritage conservation processes. The case of the city of the World heritage city of Cuenca in Ecuador, initiatives to identify and register heritage buildings has been done since the 1970's, characterised by the recognition of architectural values. In the city however, there have been efforts from the last decade which stresses community integration as demanded on the 2011 Recommendation. This study analyses the collective registers of elements that characterise an adjacent zone to the historic centre named “El Ejido”.
