The role of plastic pyrolysis products (PPP) in the preparation of activated carbon from three typical municipal solid organic wastes (MSOWs: sawdust, paper and plastic) was investigated. The results show that the PPP can not only be used as a raw material for activated carbon prepared from MSOWs, but also can effectively decrease the amount of tar addition required to produce a cylindrical bar because of its adhesive property. The release of the PPP from the bar during carbonization causes the carbonized bar to have more slit pores, which increase activation rate and improve adsorbability of the activated carbon. The PPP also plays an adjusting role in the pore formation and pore development, especially in mesopore development
