Not Availablediscriminant function study on twenty-eight groundnut cultivars for seed yield revealed a progressive increase in the relative selection efficiency based on two , three and four characters over straight selection or single character selection index in both Purulia and Midnapur districts of West Bengal . But this trend is not true for five-character combination. Maximum efficiency was observed with the selection indices based on the four characters, viz,number of pods/plant, pod yield/plant , harvest index and seed yield/plant in both the environments.
