In this thesis we deal with torrential barriers with practical example of designing the torrential barrier in eastern Austria. First we present legislation regarding barriers in Slovenia and Austria, and then compare them with each other. Further on we briefly describe the characteristics of snow slides and torrential processes. At the same time we present the models for snow slides and torrential processes with presentation of typical technical protective structures. In practical part we show the designing of the torrential barrier on concrete example on the basis of the previously described Austrian guideline (ONR) by using the programme Midas GTS. In the last part of the thesis we performed comparison of 2D and 3D analysis
