This paper treats an aspect for the research programme “Big Data Risk Analysis for the GB railways”. The paper is based on a literature report that assesses the potential uses of ontologies for that BDRA. BDRA paves the way toward digitally-enabled safety management systems that: – extract information from mixed data sources; – process them quickly to infer and present relevant safety management information; – combine applications to collectively provide sensible interpretation; – use online interfaces to connect the right people at the right time In order to provide decision support for safety and risk management.</p
