Abscisic acid (ABA) reduces water loss by inducing stomatal closure and inhibiting stomatal opening. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) promote stomatal closure to prevent the invasion of pathogens. Previous genetic studies have shown that most of signaling components to regulate stomatal movement are common in ABA and MeJA. Recently, PYR/PYL/RCAR were identified as ABA receptors. In this study, I dissected ABA signaling and MeJA signaling using the PYR/PYL/RCAR mutant. In this thesis, I provide evidence that four recently identified ABA receptors (PYR1, PYL1, PYL2 and PYL4) are not sufficient for opening inhibition in Arabidopsis thaliana, while stomatal closure was regulated by these four ABA receptors. The mobilization of second messengers, proton pump phosphorylation and K+ channel inactivation were examined in the mutant. This study is the first genetic evidence that shows differential roles of ABA receptors in opening inhibition and closure induction of stomata. To examine the roles of ABA receptors in MeJA signaling, I analyzed MeJA signaling in guard cells of the PYR/PYL/RCAR mutant, pyr1 pyl1 pyl2 pyl4. MeJA-induced stomatal closure, second messenger mobilization and K+ channel inactivation were not impaired in the mutant. This provides a clue for dissecting the mechanism of signal integration of ABA and MeJA in guard cells.    論文審査結果の要旨    気孔開閉は，陸上植物にとって重要な生理的現象である。本論文は，孔辺細胞におけるアブシジン酸とジャスモン酸メチル信号伝達経路を明らかにしようとしたものである。   初めに，アブシジン酸受容体の四重変異体を用いて，気孔開口と気孔閉口におけるこれら受容体の関与を調べた。これら４つの受容体は，アブシジン酸誘導気孔閉口に関与しているが，アブシジン酸による光誘導気孔開口には，他のアブシジン酸受容体が関与していることを明らかにした。   次に，内因性アブシジン酸を必要とするジャスモン酸メチル誘導気孔閉口において，これら４つの受容体以外のアブシジン酸受容体が関与していることを明らかにした。   以上の結果から，アブシジン酸シグナリングとジャスモン酸メチルシグナリングにおいて，既知の４つのアブシジン酸受容体以外の受容体の関与を明らかにした。   本研究内容は，学術的な価値のみならず，気孔運動に着目した生産制御のための技術の基礎となるものである。従って，本審査委員会は本論文が博士（学術）の学位論文に値すると判断した。
