L'octubre de 2003, diversos representants de les institucions europees juntament amb un grup de científics van inaugurar el primer telescopi MAGIC. Aquest projecte va néixer d'una col·laboració entre alguns instituts europeus, majoritàriament espanyols, italians i alemanys. El projecte es va iniciar a partir de la voluntat dels científics d'utilitzar noves idees i solucions tecnològiques, el que va conduir a la construcció del telescopi de raigs gamma amb el llindar d'energia més baix i temps de reposicionament més ràpid del món, la qual cosa ha fet possible èxits científics molt importants. Investigadors de la UAB han participat en MAGIC des del seu inici.En octubre de 2003, varios representantes de las instituciones europeas y un grupo de científicos inauguró el primer telescopio MAGIC. Este proyecto nació de una colaboración de algunos institutos europeos, mayoritariamente españoles, italianos y alemanes. El proyecto se inició con la voluntad de los científicos de utilizar nuevas ideas y soluciones tecnológicas, lo que condujo a la construcción del telescopio de rayos gamma con el umbral más bajo de energía y tiempo más rápido de reposicionamiento del mundo que han hecho posible logros científicos muy importantes. Investigadores de la UAB han participado en MAGIC desde sus inicios.In October 2003, several representatives of European institutions and a group of scientists inaugurated the first MAGIC telescope. MAGIC was realized by a collaboration of few European institutes, mostly Spanish, Italian and German. It was built out of the will of the scientists to challenge the competitive experiments with new technological ideas and solutions, which ultimately lead to the construction of the telescope with the lowest energy threshold and fastest repositioning time of the world that made possible important scientific achievements.
