Integração econômica e estratégias de industrialização

Abstract

This article analyses the strategies of industrialization aiming at promoting inter-industrial integration. A theory of economic integration, based upon notions of external economies, inter-industry linkages, growth poles etc., is outlined. The implications of Brazilian industrialization upon demand for labor are discussed and the study concludes that sectors linked to the agricultural sector originate more jobs when the final demand varies by one unit. Because underdeveloped countries lack resources, "big push" taking place simultaneously in all sectors is excluded, as the balanced process of industrialization requires. Concentration of resources in the leading propulsive industrie is also excluded when local economic integration is weak. In an intermediate situation, the balanced polarization suggests the allocation of resources in a given number of key industries, able to promote the integrated industrialization of the economy. This article analyses the strategies of industrialization aiming at promoting inter-industrial integration.
