São Paulo, o nordeste, e o Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

The Gaúcho Identity is viewed through the rebirth of gaúcho tradition as an answer question that marks the search for a cultural difference of Rio Grande do Sul. This search is a reaction against the tendency to economic, political and administractive centralization in a country already integrated and that homogenizes its culture by mass media. Developing its analisys, the autor deals with some aspects of The Modernist Movement of 22 and The Regional Manifesto of 26 by Gilberto Freire, just to find the origins of contemporary cultural tendencies and to examine the question of The Gaúcho Identity rebirth. The Gaúcho Identity is viewed through the rebirth of gaúcho tradition as an answer question that marks the search for a cultural difference of Rio Grande do Sul.
