Os colonos da indústria calçadista: a expansão industrial e as transformações da agricultura familiar no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

This paper investigates new labor relations which developed from two diferent social processes that changed the way of life and the traditional peasant production system of the "colonos", of German origin, who hisctoricalliy ocupied areas of old colonization in Rio Grande do Sul, like the micro-regions of "Vale do Sinos", "Encosta da Serra", "Vale do Caí, and "Vale do Taquari". These processes are diffuse industrialization and rapied changes in family-based farming. As a result, small units of production experienced substantial transformations in their land pattern of cropping and labor relations, also affected by diffuse industrialization implementend by leather and foot-wear industrial sectors which Increasing attracted migrants from surrounding rural areas.
