However, the subject ofappellate review of sentences remains controversial and often com-plex.In the symposium which follows, the student authors have great-ly contributed to an understanding of this difficult area of criminaljustice. Through thorough research and detailed analysis, theauthors provide significant insight into the handling of both capitaland non-capital sentence review by the court. In addition, they sug-gest an analytical framework for use in future cases. These contribu-tions will be very helpful to both the bench and bar, and particularlyto the judges of the Louisiana Courts of Appeal who soon willassume jurisdiction over criminal matters.Cheney C.
